How to Kill Weeds Naturally

Nothing ruins a beautiful garden like a bunch of weeds. These uninvited guests will rob the plants you have grown of nutrients and the much needed space. But it is important to remove the weeds without harming your plants. That is why natural methods work best.

Use Newspaper

Use a carpet of newspaper to deprive the weeds of sunlight so they cannot make food and they will eventually die. Make sure that you put the newspaper mulch only on the area with weeds so that you do not affect your original plants.

Try vinegar

Vinegar contains acetic acid which helps to suck the life out of non-waxy leaves. It will destroy young immature plants but unfortunately it rolls off weeds like thistle and pennywort which have waxy leaves. Before using vinegar, make sure that you cover the plants you have planted to prevent the vinegar from splattering onto their leaves. Also, you can place the bottle with the vinegar directly over the weed for effective dispensing.

Mix in some vodka

This alcohol is excellent for drying out plants so apply it directly onto the weed for the best results. Mix one ounce of vodka with two cups of water and add a few drops of liquid dishwashing soap for the right effect. The soap leaves the sprayed leaves shiny so that you know which ones have been treated and which ones haven’t.

Pour boiling water

Boiling water is simple yet effective when combating weeds. And it does the most predictable thing: it burns the weeds and destroys them and that is how it kills them. Boil some water and pour all over the weeds but make sure that you have protected the original plants. But even if you don’t you don’t really have to worry because the water can become cool as it runs off into the original plants.

You do not always need chemicals to weed out weeds. All the above are mostly substances that you have around the house anyway. All you need is the right information and the right amount of imagination.
